Located about thirty kilometres from Turin, the modern 250 sqm house designed by firm CR/A by Carola Ribotta met the young client’s requests for a functional, well-organized, contemporary home, with attention to every detail.

The entrance area of the house, which is spread over two levels and a basement, is characterized by a spectacular cantilevered staircase acting as the fulcrum of the project, around which the distribution of all the spaces is organized. Lightweight and material at the same time, this characterizing architectural element, custom-made by company Cirifer Design – the ideal partner of the design world for the creation of custom-made staircases – conveys the salient features of the project: care, elegance, practicality.

The cantilevered steps, covered with oiled oak like the rest of the parquet flooring, are protected by a transparent glass balustrade which leaves the view unobstructed. The centrality of this element is enhanced by the white walls, which like a scenography background highlights its geometry, and by the large slanted ceiling windows which flood it with zenithal light.

Casa Nocciola, as it was named by architect Carola Ribotta, responsible for the space planning and interior design, is spread over three levels: a ground floor with the living area and two bedrooms, one of which is the master bedroom with walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom, separated by a full-height sliding smoked glass window, an upper floor with the sleeping area and a tavern in the basement with kitchen, bathroom and some technical rooms, including the laundry room and the garage.

The new architecture made it possible to create overlooking and overhanging openings, transformed into terraces, which contributed to enlivening the rooms, substantially characterized by a regular layout. The result is a well-organized, practical and contemporary home, warmed up by the abundant presence of wood.

On the ground floor, the large open space of the living and dining rooms, partially separated by a central plasterboard partition which incorporates a double[1]sided gas fireplace, is flooded with natural light coming from the large windows and the partial transparent ceiling. The boundaries between the ground floor and the first floor are marked by a balcony with glass parapets: here is the sleeping area with two other bedrooms and as many dedicated bathrooms.

‘The upper rooms are striking in their uniqueness: the vaults are specially lit to emphasise the techniques used. The aim of this renovation was to retain the period elements and enrich them with some contemporary details. The project had to have a clear theme, all spaces had to dialogue and harmonise with each other, which is why only one colour is used for both the living and sleeping areas,’ says architect Carola Ribotta.
