Right to Housing Conference: First stop in Milan
The RIGHT TO HOUSING conference, organised by IQD, in collaboration with Light + Building/Messe Frankfurt Italia and Confcooperative Habitat, was held on 28 November 2023 at the University of Milan La Statale.
This first conference dedicated to the theme of the Right to Housing opened a wide-ranging reflection on the needs and interventions required at European level to guarantee affordable, flexible, sustainable and quality housing for all.
After the institutional greetings of Paolo Inghilleri, Professor of Social Psychology, University of Milan, Roberta Busnelli, Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Director of the architecture magazine IQD, and Paola Farina representing Light + Building/Messe Frankfurt Italy, speeches were given by: Andrea Boschetti, curator of the collection of contributions Right to Housing, Ruben Baiocco, Professor of Urban Planning, University of Milan, Pierfrancesco Maran, Councillor for Housing and Neighbourhood Plan, Municipality of Milan, Stefano Cardini, Journalist, Sarah Gainsforth, Writer and Researcher, with a video contribution, Alessandro Maggioni, President of Confcooperative Habitat and CCL and co-curator of Right to Housing, Carla Ferrer, Partner architecture firm ITER and Lorenzo Consalez, Professor of Architectural Design, Politecnico di Milano.
Without claiming to provide a single solution to such a complex and multifaceted problem, the conference, as well as the collection published in IQD, presented, with the contribution of professional figures working in various sectors, from the associative to the political, cooperative and architectural ones, some possible visions on adequate regulatory national and international interventions and on forms of organization, mutual support and atypical living.
The Milan conference started a path to raise awareness on the topic of the Right to Housing, which will continue in Bolzano on 11 December at the “NOI Techpark” technology park, in Turin in January and in March in Frankfurt, in a European context at Light + Building, the most important lighting and smart building event.
